چکیده
This article describes a comprehensive testing method for the thermal calibration of Thermal InfraRed Sensor (TIRS) onboard NASA's Perseverance rover. Ground-based IR detectors operating at surface Mars are subjected to inaccuracies caused by inclusion gradients in their packages. To reduce such uncertainties, it is necessary compensate effects. Here, details TIRS thermo-mechanical design and simplified mathematical model (TMM) that accounts presence detector's package provided. Then, set equations estimation compensation proposed based on results TMM. tests identify estimators analyzed, providing test setups highlighting limitations restrictions. Finally, experimental presented, along with uncertainty sources potential systematic errors associated gradients. The presented here show significant improvement accuracy versus previous work, thus fulfilling radiometer scientific requirements 2020 science team.

Landsat-8 Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) Vicarious Radiometric Calibration
Launched in February 2013, the Landsat-8 carries on-board the Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS), a two-band thermal pushbroom imager, to maintain the thermal imaging capability of the Landsat program. The TIRS bands are centered at roughly 10.9 and 12 μm (Bands 10 and 11 respectively). They have 100 m spatial resolution and image coincidently with the Operational Land Imager (OLI), also on-board L...

Introduction: To be launched in 2011, the ChemCam (Chemistry Camera) instrument suite will provide remote sensing for the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) rover [1, 2]. ChemCam consists of a laserinduced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) instrument and a remote micro-imager to supply close-up context images of the LIBS analysis spots [1]. The laser spot radius will be between 60 and 200 μm at distance...
متن کاملTwo Years of Autonomous Targeting Onboard the Mer Opportunity Rover
The Autonomous Exploration for Gathering Increased Science (AEGIS) system provides automated, sciencedrive data collection for planetary rovers. AEGIS is currently being used onboard the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) mission’s Opportunity rover to provide autonomous targeting of the MER Panoramic camera. Prior to AEGIS, targets were typically manually identified in images transmitted to Earth an...
متن کاملPolarimetric Microwave Radiometer Calibration
A polarimetric radiometer is a radiometer with the capability to measure the correlation information between vertically and horizontally polarized electric fields. To better understand and calibrate this type of radiometer, several research efforts have been undertaken. 1) All microwave radiometer measurements of brightness temperature (7B) include an additive noise component. The variance and ...

The Onboard Autonomous Science Investigation System (OASIS) system has been developed to enable a rover to identify and react to serendipitous science opportunities. Using the FIDO rover in the Mars Yard at JPL, we have successfully demonstrated a fully autonomous opportunistic science system. The closed loop system tests included the rover acquiring image data, finding rocks in the image, anal...
